Center for Credit & Consumer Research

Penn State Erie, The Behrend College

Since the Center’s inception, it has been geared almost exclusively towards outreach-based educational programs. The Center has applied research in consumer socialization and the credit usage habits of college students to create teaching tools focused on community outreach. The goal was to provide education on fundamental financial literacy issues to those with the greatest need.

The Center’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. Below are some highlights of the Center’s accomplishments.

Since the Center was founded in 2004, over 5,000 students have been impacted by our financial literacy programs.

Through the past partnership with the Erie Times News, nearly 10,000 students in Northwest Pennsylvania have been exposed to various financial topics in the Friday feature entitled: “NIE: Invest in your future.”

Our programs have received overwhelmingly positive feedback, and we aim to increase outreach efforts to reach as many students as possible. We are constantly searching for new partners and creative ways to improve our programs.
